DH-ID – The Instructional Design you need is here!

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

It's been a rather strange 12 months for me. Starting the year in South East Asia, I harbored visions of working in Australia until 2021 then setting out on a few more trips. What happened instead was something that affected all of us... COVID struck. My time in Australia didn't quite pan out how I hoped and so in late August I returned to the UK, but as the Oceania door slammed behind me, I thought why not try and open another.

I had been toying with the idea of becoming a freelance Instructional Designer for a while now, and if one good thing has come out of COVID for me, it’s finally given me the nudge that I needed to have a go!

Over the years, my favourite part of the job was being able to work on different projects, different people and using different skills. Notice the common word there? Different. I love the variety that comes with the role and the ability to be able to work with new clients on challenging projects is one of the thrills of setting up DH-ID.

What does DH-ID offer?

So how can I help you? Well, if you need an Instructional Designer, I’d love to be your go to contact. Whether you have a project that needs completing, some content that needs mapping or simply a quick chat about some training needs, I can be that person.

I am also a specialist in developing complex, bespoke training within Articulate Storyline. Over the years I’ve built numerous blended learning modules, interactive videos, gamified solutions, assessment driven learning, as well as the basic templated modules that offer a simple, linear solution. Maybe you have an old flash module that needs updating? Or simply want to modernise your training, using the Articulate 360, I’ll find the right process for you.

As well as the above, I’m also a thinker and I love problems (as long as they’re not mathematic…) I enjoy building relationships and pride myself on being able to work closely with my clients so that the solution we come up with achieves, and hopefully exceeds your goals. Being part of this learning journey, from the start to finish, is what I will offer you, I’m more than happy to be as involved as you want me.

Why is DH-ID unique?

There are plenty of Instructional Designers out there, as well as companies who can offer services that you need. I know this first hand having worked in the industry for quite a while now, I’ve worked with and met some amazing individuals who constantly help push people like me to continuously improve.

Where I think I can make a difference is my ability to think of and then create innovative solutions that if done elsewhere, may take twice as long and cost a lot more. If you have an idea or a thought then more often than not, I will make it happen. I’ve got years of experience in turning tried and trusted Face to Face training methods into online solutions that not only keep the elements of the F2F training alive but give you that digital arm to be able to reach more learners with.

Most importantly for me, I want to develop close, strong working relationships with anyone I may deliver projects for. My ultimate goal is to be your go to contact for any problem or request you have for your online training needs.

Looking ahead

There’s no doubt that now is a challenging time for all businesses, but whilst we all wait and hope that normality will return soon, learning and development remains a constant source of optimism for most. For me it’s an opportunity to help others and develop something that can make a difference, no matter how small.

So even if you don’t specifically have a project in the pipeline, I would still welcome any kind questions or thoughts you have on any topic, doesn’t even have to be work related! It’s great to see how the online learning community has supported each other throughout the last year, and if I can help just one person in any way I would consider that a success.

For now, I’ll probably be behind my desk, reading, typing, banging my head against a wall until my smart watch says I need to get up and go for a walk… and then repeat.
