Victoria State Emergency Services
Creating online training for volunteers
This short, fixed term contract for VICSES involved me helping Victoria's emergency volunteers with some onboard training. The purpose was to help new members gain an understanding of the basic compliance around driving company vehicles. This training was storyboarded and then built within Storyline by myself.
The Project
For Victoria State Emergency Services, I was brought in to help write, design and build part of the compliance suite of training for their volunteers.
The Purpose
Some volunteers are required to drive emergency vehicles as well as 4WD and even boats. This training aims to familiarise them with the vehicles, their equipment, the policies attached to them as well as giving helpful advice.
Style
I used a mixture of graphics and actual images of the different vehicles and volunteers driving to help familiarise the learner with them. We went for a conversational tone as we are dealing with volunteers who are offering their time to help.
Interactivity
When going through the content I thought some parts leant itself well for demo videos, particularly around maneuvering and checking certain parts of the vehicles.
Knowledge Checks
Throughout the learning, knowledge checks were added to reinforce the key areas of the training, these included the learner being able to type notes whilst completing the training. Questions were not designed to stress the learner, but help confirm the key bits of information.
